Godhead: How bibilical is it?

One God in three persons. Is it bibilcal?

Father is God

Gal 1:1 Paul, an apostle, neither from men nor through a man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him up from the dead,

2 John 1:3 There will be with us undeserved kindness, mercy [and] peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Son of the Father, with truth and love.

Isaiah 44:6 This is what Jehovah has said, the King of Israel and the Repurchaser of him, Jehovah of armies, ‘I am the first and I am the last, and besides me there is no God.

Mattew 11:25 At that time Jesus said in response: “I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes.

Deut 10:17 For Jehovah YOUR God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the God great, mighty and fear-inspiring, who treats none with partiality nor accepts a bribe

Isaiah 10:20-21 And it will certainly occur in that day that those remaining over of Israel and those who have escaped of the house of Jacob will never again support themselves upon the one striking them, and they will certainly support themselves upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in trueness. A mere remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.

Son is God

Gen. 31:11-13 Then the angel of the [true] God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob!’ to which I said, ‘Here I am.’ I am the [true] God of Beth´el, where you anointed a pillar and where you vowed a vow to me. Now get up, go out of this land and return to the land of your birth.’”

Exodus 3:2,4,6 Then Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire in the midst of a thornbush. When Jehovah saw that he turned aside to inspect, God at once called to him out of the midst of the thornbush And he went on to say: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses concealed his face, because he was afraid to look at the [true] God.

Ex. 23:20-23 Here I am sending an angel ahead of you to keep you on the road and to bring you into the place that I have prepared. Watch yourself because of him and obey his voice. Do not behave rebelliously against him, for he will not pardon YOUR transgression; because my name is within him.

Hosea. 12:4 And he kept contending with an angel and gradually prevailed. He wept, that he might implore favor for himself.” At Beth´el He got to find him, and there He began talking with us.

Gen. 32:28-30 Then he said: “Your name will no longer be called Jacob but Israel , for you have contended with God and with men so that you at last prevailed.” Hence Jacob called the name of the place Pe·ni´el, because, to quote him, “I have seen God face to face and yet my soul was delivered.”

Jdg. 13:21-23 Then it was that Ma·no´ah knew that he had been Jehovah’s angel. 22 Consequently Ma·no´ah said to his wife: “We shall positively die, because it is God that we have seen.”

Rev1:17 And when I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet. And he laid his right hand upon me and said: “Do not be fearful. I am the First and the Last

1 Cor. 8:6 There is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

Rev 19:16 And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Isaiah 9:6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Holy Spirit is God

2 cor 3:17 Now Jehovah is the Spirit; and where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom.

Acts 5:3,4 But Peter said: “An·a·ni´as, why has Satan emboldened you to play false to the holy spirit and to hold back secretly some of the price of the field? As long as it remained with you did it not remain yours, and after it was sold did it not continue in your control? Why was it that you purposed such a deed as this in your heart? You have played false, not to men, but to God

God in two persons

Amos 4:11 I caused an overthrow among you people, like God’s overthrow of Sodom and Gommorah, is the utterance of Jehovah.

Note that Jehovah says, He caused an overthrow just like God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. Who is the God who overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah?

Gen 19:24 Then Jehovah made it rain sulphur and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens, upon Sod´om and upon Go•mor´rah

In Gen 19:24 there are two Jehovahs, one on the earth calling fire down from the other in the heavens! The God who overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah is none other than Jehovah.

Hosea 1:7 But to the house of Judah I shall show mercy, and I will save them by Jehovah their God; but I shall not save them by a bow or by a sword or by war, by horses or by horsemen

Isaiah 44:6 This is what Jehovah has said, the King of Israel and the Repurchaser of him, Jehovah of armies, ‘I am the first and I am the last, and besides me there is no God.

Zechariah 10:12 And I will make them superior in Jehovah, and in his name they will walk about,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.”

Jeremiah 23:5-6 Look! There are days coming,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I will raise up to David a righteous sprout. And a king will certainly reign and act with discretion and execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel itself will reside in security. And this is his name with which he will be called, Jehovah Is Our Righteousness.

Zechariah 2:8-9 For this is what Jehovah of armies has said, ‘Following after [the] glory he has sent me to the nations that were despoiling YOU people; for he that is touching YOU is touching my eyeball. 9For here I am waving my hand against them, and they will have to become spoil to their slaves.’ And YOU people will certainly know that Jehovah of armies himself has sent me.

Isaiah 48:1 Hear this, O house of Jacob, YOU who are calling yourselves by the name of Israel and who have come forth from the very waters of Judah , YOU who are swearing by the name of Jehovah and who make mention even of the God of Israel, not in truth and not in righteousness.

Zechariah 3:1-3 And he proceeded to show me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Jehovah, and Satan standing at his right hand in order to resist him. Then [the angel of] Jehovah said to Satan: “Jehovah rebuke you, O Satan, yes, Jehovah rebuke you, he who is choosing Jerusalem! Is this one not a log snatched out of the fire?”

Jeremiah 50:40 Just as with God’s overthrow of Sod´om and of Go·mor´rah and of her neighbor [towns],” is the utterance of Jehovah, “no man will dwell there, nor will the son of mankind reside in her as an alien.

Zephaniah 1:8,9 And it must occur on the day of Jehovah’s sacrifice that I will give attention to the princes, and to the sons of the king, and to all those wearing foreign attire. 9 And I will give attention to everyone that is climbing upon the platform in that day, those who are filling the house of their masters with violence and deception.

Deuteronomy 9:10 then Jehovah gave me the two tablets of stone written upon with God’s finger; and upon them were all the words that Jehovah had spoken with YOU in the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the congregation.

Note: The passage does not say, "The Jehovah delivered unto me two tables of stone which He Himself had written. See also:ANGEL of Jehovah not Jehovah?

God in three persons

Matt. 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit

It is interesting that Matthew 28:19 says ‘name,’ not ‘names,’ of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That is because the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is inseparably joined by a singular common name, just like a married couple have one family name.

John 14:16 and I will request the Father and he will give YOU another helper to be with YOU forever

11 Cor. 13:14 The undeserved kindness of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the sharing in the holy spirit be with all of YOU.

John 14: 26 But the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach YOU all things and bring back to YOUR minds all the things I told YOU.

Isaiah 63:8-10 So it was to them that he came to be a Savior. During all their distress it was distressing to him. And his own personal messenger saved them. But they themselves rebelled and made his holy spirit feel hurt.

Is. 48.16-17 And now the Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself has sent me, even his spirit.

Isaiah 61:1 The spirit of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah is upon me, for the reason that Jehovah has anointed me to tell good news to the meek ones.

Ephesians 4:4-6 One body there is, and one spirit, even as YOU were called in the one hope to which YOU were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all [persons], who is over all and through all and in all.

Note carefully that there be no misunderstanding. These three text show very clearly that there is "one" of each... there is one Spirit, one Lord which we know is Jesus Christ, and one God the Father.

11 Cor. 1:21,22 But he who guarantees that YOU and we belong to Christ and he who has anointed us is God. He has also put his seal upon us and has given us the token of what is to come, that is, the spirit, in our hearts.

1 Cor 12:4-6 Now there are varieties of gifts, but there is the same spirit; and there are varieties of ministries, and yet there is the same Lord; and there are varieties of operations, and yet it is the same God who performs all the operations in all persons.

John 16:13,15 However, when that one arrives, the spirit of the truth, he will guide YOU into all the truth, for he will not speak of his own impulse, but what things he hears he will speak, and he will declare to YOU the things coming. All the things that the Father has are mine. That is why I said he receives from what is mine and declares [it] to YOU.

John 20:21-22 “May YOU have peace. Just as the Father has sent me forth, I also am sending YOU.” And after he said this he blew upon them and said to them: “Receive holy spirit.

Numbers 6:24-26 “May Jehovah bless you and keep you. May Jehovah make his face shine toward you, and may he favor you. May Jehovah lift up his face toward you and assign peace to you.”’

Note: As with Isaiah 6:3, where the seraphim's cry, "Holy Holy Holy" three times, so here in this text we have mention of y'hovah three times. Coupled with the verses we have seen above in both the Old and New Testament, it's clear that we are dealing with three separate and divine beings, each described as y'hovah or holy, yet they are also described as ONE God.

ALL THREE members were present at creation

Genesis 1:26 And God went on to say: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.”

Genesis 1:1,2 In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of [the] watery deep; and God’s active force was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters.

Col. 1:15 By Him [Christ] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, ...all things were created through Him and for Him."

Job 33:3 God’s own spirit made me, And the Almighty’s own breath proceeded to bring me to life.

But some say, when God said let Us, he was taking counsel from angels. Is that the case?

Isaiah 40:13,14 Who has taken the proportions of the spirit of Jehovah, and who as his man of counsel can make him know anything? With whom did he consult together that one might make him understand, or who teaches him in the path of justice, or teaches him knowledge, or makes him know the very way of real understanding?

Plural of majesty or persons?

Throughout the creation story in Genesis 1 the word for God is ’Elohim, the plural form of ’Eloha. Generally, this plural has been interpreted as a plural of majesty rather than of plurality. However, G. A. F. Knight has correctly argued that to make this a plural of majesty is to read into the ancient Hebrew text a modern concept, since the kings of Israel and Judah are all addressed in the singular in the biblical record.14 Furthermore, Knight points out that the Hebrew words for water and heaven are both plural. Grammarians have termed this phenomenon the quantitative plural. Water can appear in the form of small drops or large oceans. This quantitative diversity in unity, says Knight, is a fitting way of understanding the plural ’Elohim. This also explains why the singular noun ’Adonai is written as a plural. More Godhead texts : Note that the following verses are single verses in scriptures where all three members of the Godhead are mentioned.

1 Peter 1:2 According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, with sanctification by the spirit, for the purpose of their being obedient and sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ:

Hebrews 9:14 How much more will the blood of the Christ, who through an everlasting spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works that we may render sacred service to [the] living God?

Ephesians 2:18 Because through him we, both peoples, have the approach to the Father by one spirit.

Galatians 3:14 The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham might come to be by means of Jesus Christ for the nations, that we might receive the promised spirit through our faith.

Acts 2:33 Therefore because he was exalted to the right hand of God and received the promised holy spirit from the Father, he has poured out this which YOU see and hear.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.

Romans 15:30 Now I exhort YOU, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the spirit, that YOU exert yourselves with me in prayers to God for me.

Romans 15:16 For me to be a public servant of Christ Jesus to the nations, engaging in the holy work of the good news of God, in order that the offering, namely, these nations, might prove to be acceptable, it being sanctified with holy spirit.

Acts 10:38 Namely, Jesus who was from Naz´a·reth, how God anointed him with holy spirit and power, and he went through the land doing good and healing all those oppressed by the Devil; because God was with him.

Acts 7:55 But he, being full of holy spirit, gazed into heaven and caught sight of God’s glory and of Jesus standing at God’s right hand.

1 Peter 4:14 If YOU are being reproached for the name of Christ, YOU are happy, because the [spirit] of glory, even the spirit of God, is resting upon YOU.

The word of God says that our God is one (Deuteronomy 6:4). How can they be three?

When we say or hear number ONE, we think number one in terms of numerical. In Gensis 2:24, when a man and wife get together, they become ONE, but yet they are two seperate persons. See below:

Genesis 2:24 That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one (’echad) flesh.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Listen, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one (’echad) Jehovah

Thus when it says God is one, it implies UNITY. Amos 4:11 and Genesis 19:24 clearly shows that there are two persons and they are referred to as Jehovah. So when it says Jehovah is one, it has to speaking about one in terms of unity and not numerical. Jesus said "I and the father are one" (John 10:30). Once again, one here means unity because Jesus and the Father are two seperate persons and yet part of one Godhead.

Further UNITY proofs:

Jude 4 My reason is that certain men have slipped in who have long ago been appointed by the Scriptures to this judgment, ungodly men, turning the undeserved kindness of our God into an excuse for loose conduct and proving false to our only Owner and Lord, Jesus Christ.

1 Cor. 8:6 There is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

Jesus is not the "one and only" Lord, Father is also Lord.

Deut 10:17 For Jehovah YOUR God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the God great, mighty and fear-inspiring, who treats none with partiality nor accepts a bribe

Mattew 11:25 At that time Jesus said in response: “I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes.

Therefore in scriptures, the words ONE or ONLY does not exclude the possiblity of unity. Even in the case of John 17:3!

John17:3 This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

So we see that God is in three (Tri) persons and yet they one (Unity) God. It is true that the word Trinity is not found in the bible (so is the word Millennium). But Tri-unity is very much biblical.

The Trinity doctrine is pagan?

The doctrine of the Trinity is based on Scripture not on pagan religions or human philosophy. Similar triadic constellations in other religions such as Brahma,Siva, and Visnu in Hinduism; Osiris, Isis, and Horus inthe Egyptian religion; or Nimrod, Ishtar, and Tammuz in Babylon are based on the family concept — father , mother, and son — which is not the case in the Christian religion. If there is any parallelism at all it would be evidence for a satanic counterfeit such as we find in the book of Revelation (the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet). (The doctrine of the Trinity among Adventists p. 8-9)

The doctrine of the Trinity is Catholic [papal] in origin?

The historical record gives us a different picture. Although the concept of the Trinity is scriptural, the doctrine was formulated at the ecumenical Council of Nicaea in AD 325. The Council summoned by Emperor Constantine assembled in Nicaea (Asia Minor) to deal with the Arian controversy. Of the 318 bishops only eight came from the West, the rest were from the Eastern churches where the bishop of Rome had very little influence. The bishop of Rome himself was not even present, he sent two priests to represent him. This clearly contradicts the claim that the Trinity is of Roman Catholic origin. (The doctrine of the Trinity among Adventists p. 8-9)

The doctrine of God in three persons teaches:

Each person is not ‘a’ God; rather it is the three persons that are God, or make up the ‘Godhead.’ It is similar to having a government, which is a singular word but the government is made up of a number of individual members. No single member is the government, but all make up that government as individual members.

"He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love" (1 John 4:8) . The very fact that God is said to be love implies that there must be a plurality within the Godhead since love can only exist in a relationship between different beings.

Conclusion: What is bibilcal is that God is more than one person (actually three persons) and yet all three are not three Gods but ONE God in UNITY according to the scriptures. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are each eternal, and one in nature and purpose, but not in being a single person. And also note: the scriptures used above are derived from the NWT. If one uses the KJV or any other reliable translation, one can easily conclude the identity of Christ and the Holy Spirit. NWT translation was intended to prove otherwise, but guess what...it has failed!!!! One God in three persons (Tri-Unity) is very much bibilcal (even in the NWT).
