How to make up your mind
James 1:5-11
'Double minded man is unstable in all his ways' (James 1:8)
THE
PROBLEM: Indecision
James
tells us that we must make up our minds but we struggle with indecision.
Problems with indecision:
Unstable emotions. If we don't make up our
minds, we will not have any direction for our lives.
Unstable relationships. A lack of commitment
destroys more marriages and relationships
Unstable spiritual lives. When we won't make up our
minds to pursue God's will, it keeps God from giving and us from receiving the
blessings we are meant to have.
THE
PRESCRIPTION: FAITH.
James prescribes three practical steps to having a faith that works and overcoming indecision.
James prescribes three practical steps to having a faith that works and overcoming indecision.
STEP 1. ADMIT OUR NEED - In verse 5 James writes, “If
any of you lack wisdom…”
STEP 2. ASK FOR WISDOM James writes, “If any man
lacks wisdom he should ask God.” We need God's wisdom in all we do.
I know I couldn't do my job without it.
STEP 3. ANTICIPATE THE ANSWER. James says, “When
you pray, if any of you lacks wisdom he should ask of God who gives generously
to all without finding fault and it will be given to him. But when he asks he
must believe and not doubt.”
THE PROMISE: GOD WILL GIVE IT!
"If any man lacks wisdom he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James knows that it's God's nature to give. Just look at what God gave so we could be saved! We remember that Jesus gave His body and blood so we all could have life!
