The Star Wars

A sermon by Pastor Ivor Myers. Listen to the original complete message here:  Jury Selection

I want to start by saying something quite amazing. I know who you are. God says in his word that before He created you, He says I knew you (Jeremiah 1:5). Friends, today I want to let you know that God knows who you are and some of you in here may not know who you are.

In the book of Mark 1:23, 24, it says, “And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out (that is as Jesus was coming towards him), 24Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art

Isn’t that interesting? The devil knew who Jesus was. Now why did the devil know who Jesus was? Because Jesus knew who he was. How many of you caught that just now. Jesus knew who he was. Jesus knew what his mission was. And when he came face to face with the enemy of souls, He said, “I know who you are”.

It’s interesting to read about the seven sons of Skeva, who were trying to cast out a demon. What happens is, this demon is active and when he hears the sons of Skeva attempting to cast him out, the demon says something interesting, Acts 19:15, “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?”.

If that was me, I would have turned pale. Here I am doing Lord’s work and the devil turns around and says who are you again? Now that was a statement that the devil made in an attempt to intimidate.

I want to ask you a question my friends. Do you know who you are?

I want to share something that is just amazing. How many of you know of Star Wars? Do you realize that star wars is real?

Listen to what the Bible says in Revelation 12:4. In order to know who you are, you got to know the context behind who you are. I want you to understand the context, because there is something called the great controversy; a war between good and evil; the forces of light vs. the forces of darkness. And we are told that this conflict began in heaven with an angel called Lucifer.

Revelation 12:4, “And his [dragons] tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven , and he [dragon who is called the Devil] and his angels were cast out with him.

Who are these stars that with Satan were cast to the earth? They are angels. So in heaven there were angels who are also called stars, and they engaged in a war (Rev 12:7) against God which let's us know that the first and the original and genuine star war began in heaven.

In Isaiah 14:13, Lucifer says, “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation”.

Who were the stars of God? Here we have Lucifer gathering his stars to fight a war against the stars of God and we can come to a conclusion that the first star wars was in heaven. Now you must know that this star war spilled out and came to planet earth.

That’s why you find in Gen 15:5 that God calls Abraham and says to him, Abraham, I want you to look up to the what? “the Stars” - so shall your seed be like these stars. Why? Because there was a star war that began in heaven, and now that star war has spilled out on to the earth, and Abraham, I am calling you and your seed to me my star warriors. I know who you are. Do you know who you are?

My friends, if we follow this theme right through out in Scriptures, in Daniel 8:10, we are introduced to a little horn and it says that the little horn was to “cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them”. What it is talking about is that this power that would rule during the dark ages would actually try to destroy or war against the stars of God. So a star war that began in heaven has spilled out of heaven and is taking place where? Earth!

What is even more interesting is that, when you go to the book of Mathew 1, 2, you got three wise men coming because they have seen a star. So Jesus Christ, “the bright and morning star (Rev 22:16) comes upon the scene, and now Herod is searching for the star. Not only are the wise men searching for the star, but Herod is searching for the star, and the devil himself is searching for the star because they know the importance of this Star, in the star war.

Then there was another side. Because over in the book of Jude 1:13, we read about “wondering stars”. This is talking about the wicked as a wondering star. As there are “stars” which represent the people of God (Dan 12:3), there are stars that stand against God and these two parties are at war with one another. We not only wrestle against the principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12), we also wrestle against demons who are inhabiting people.

Now that we understand the context, I want to show you who you really are without a shadow of doubt.

What started a war in heaven? What really went wrong in heaven?

Ezekiel 28:15, “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee”.

What started the war in heaven? When iniquity was found in heaven. What is iniquity? It is sin. What is sin? “Sin is the transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4), which lets us know that in heaven, there was law that was broken because there has to be a law in order for there to be transgression. Does that make sense?

Here is the big question. Why didn’t God destroy Lucifer then and there when he rebelled against God? Some of you already have an answer for this question. If Lucifer began to say God is unjust and He is unfair and His law is unfair; and beloved, that is what he was saying. Why didn’t God destroy and judge him right there? Here is the reason:

In Deut 19:16,17, God commands Moses and lays out these principles:

Deut 19:16, “If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; 17Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days".

What is the principle here? If a controversy arose between two people, there had to be what, a third-party. There had to be a third party to judge between the two. Amen.

Do you see that there? Why didn’t God judge Lucifer when Lucifer rose to accuse God? How many parties were there in heaven when this controversy arose? How many? 1) Lucifer and his angels. 2) God and his angels. And so in all the universe, there was no third party.

Just imagine you and I had a conflict. I say to you, alright, I am going to see you in court. You say that’s right. I will see you in court too. And you come to court and guess who is sitting on the bench? Me? You are going to sweat really hard right? Because you know how this case will turn out.

Lucifer is accusing God and all heaven is polarized into two sides. There was no third party.

Notice something in Ezekiel 28:17 that God tells to Lucifer, which must have had Lucifer scratching his head.

Ezekiel 28:17, “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

And Lucifer is going what? Lay me before who? Don’t you know that heaven is polarized into two sides?

Lay me before kings – this term is symbolic of judgment. Do you remember when that woman who was caught in adultery was brought before Jesus (John 8:3), what did they do? They threw her before the feet of Jesus, so that Jesus could do what? Judge her.

God is telling Lucifer, I am going to throw you or lay you before kings that they may judge you. And Lucifer is scratching his head saying who are these kings?

Who are these kings that are supposed to judge me? Everyone in the universe has taken two sides, what are you going to do God?

Who are these kings that God will take Lucifer and lay before them?

Revelation 1: 5,6 “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,  6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father”

Has made us what? Kings.

In Revelation 20:4, it speaks about this great resurrection that takes place, and it says the judgment was given unto those, who followed Jesus fully.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them:

Then in 1 Cor 6:3 Know you not that we shall judge angels

Do you realize who you are?

In fact my friends, when God created mankind, they were to serve as the jury.  So when God made mankind, they were to serve as that third party who would judge between God and Lucifer.

Isn’t that a high, awesome, incredible, calling? One day the saints will say, "True and righteous are all thy judgements" (Rev 16:7). The devil knows who you are and that’s why when Adam and Eve was created, devil said, are these the ones that are going to rule over me? Are these the ones that are going to judge me? Is this to be the jury? Hmm. If you were a criminal and you had an opportunity to get to the jury, what would you do? Bribe the jury. Isn’t that what a criminal would do?

You would attempt to bribe the jury. You would attempt to disqualify the jury because if there is no jury, there is no third party, and then there can be no judgment.

So now what happens is that Satan comes to Adam and Eve in the garden, and says, did God say you can’t eat of this tree. Don’t listen to God. If you eat of this, Gen 3:5, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods [judges], knowing good and evil”.

Now the Hebrew word for 'gods' is actually translated into judges.

You can be as judges determining right and wrong for yourself. You don’t need to follow God’s word to determine what is right and wrong; you can be judges for yourself. You don’t have to listen to the Bible. And it is amazing as Eve took of that fruit and ate, guess what she lost? She lost her ability to discern between right and wrong.

Then the devil says, God, are these the ones that are supposed to judge me? And you know what, God didn’t say yeah, you are right, I am going to create a whole new people. He says, no! I am going to redeem them. I am going to bring back sound judgment to them so that they will indeed judge you. He comes with the Gospel my friends and we understand that the entire purpose of the gospel is to reinstate in us sound judgment so that we can enter the supreme court. God has called you to be jurors – you shall judge angels!

Do you know that there are three conditions for a juror?

1) A juror is chosen first because he has limited or no knowledge of the case.

Now who was there when Satan sinned? Nobody. Mankind was not there. So God created us outside of the crisis.

2) A juror must be an outstanding citizen of the country which he represents.

And so my friends, this is the reason why devil tries so hard to disqualify your citizenship

Only an outstanding law abiding citizen who has been transformed by the grace of Christ enters heaven (John 3:3).

3) A juror must have sound judgement.

Are you accepting who you are in Christ?

This is why in the last days, we are talking about a star war. If we are to go through this war, we got to learn how to fight as Christians. This is why in the last days; the Bible speaks of babylon who makes the world drunk with her wine. What does wine do? Its impairs the senses so that you cannot discern between right and wrong. What does Babylon mean? Confusion. Do you know what confusion is? Confusion is the opposite of truth. Well the very philosophies that are out there today; well there is no such thing as absolute truth; do you know what you are doing when you say that in God’s hearing? God is saying, man, if I let you in, you will be saying what was the matter with the devil first up? God hold on a second and you’ll become the devil's advocate. Truth is truth!

A good juror must understand why he is what he is. Why he believes what he believes. He must be able to look at all the evidence and come to the conclusion that truth is truth.

Dan 12:3 gives a beautiful promise:

“And they that be wise (they that be what? Let's put another word there; they that be jurors/judges) shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever”.

Now beloved, you and I are a star. Not the kind of star you find in the world. A different kind. We are stars not because of popularity; if I was never known by anyone in this world, I will still be a star in God’s eyes. A true star is not one that is popular in the eyes of man, but God. I know who you are. Now I don’t know if you know who you are. But I know who you are!
