Sons of GOD in Genesis 6

What Does The Bible Teach Concerning The Sons Of GOD And The Daughters Of Men in Genesis 6?

Let us begin by quoting the two passages in Genesis 6 concerning the "Sons of GOD":

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. Genesis 6:2

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown. Genesis 6:4

So, the question that is commonly asked by many (Christians and non-Christians alike), “Who are the “Sons of GOD” of Genesis 6:2,4?”

It would at first seem that there is no immediate nearby answer, and so, a vast majority of people immediately leave the safety of the nearby context, looking elsewhere [generally along the lines of the apocryphal so-called “1 Book of Enoch”], and come to the premature and hazardous conclusion that the “Sons of GOD” are “angels” [ie. the 'created beings of the Heavenly Host'; or more specifically in this instance: 'fallen angels', called devils/demons/Baals, etc], and that these “Sons of GOD/angels” intermixed, interbred, and/or, worse yet, forced themselves upon helpless “human” women - the “daughters of men”, thus bringing about “demon-spawned super human-hybrids” [an unholy physical amalgamation of “devil and mankind”] whom they then declare are the “giants” [“Nephilim”, etc.], “mighty men which [were] of old” and “men of renown”.

Those who end up coming to such conclusions, rashly do so without a further and deeper consideration of the texts. They, without fully considering the ramifications of their answer and what it would mean to the Gospel, would rather instead cling tightly to their “private interpretation” using in evidence not only apocryphal materials with alternative agendas and anti-scriptural doctrines, but many tend to force the three similar verses of scripture in the Book of Job [being Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7] out of it's context and very often rejecting or bypassing every other word on the matter. However, as will be revealed, it is quite unnecessary and extremely destructive to the WORD of GOD to do such a thing, as it directly leads to many errant ideologies and aberrant theologies – for instance: “devil-human-hybrids”, “physical lines of descendants of Satan (Serpent Seed theology)”, “alien conspiracies (Reptilian Masters)”, “super-human races”, and in one known instance being used and stretched beyond even farcical eisegesis to try and provide evidence for an “evolutionary model and makeup within scripture ['Neanderthal' breeding with various 'divergent' stock]”, etc.

However, before considering the immediate context, let us look and see why the term “Sons of GOD” in Genesis 6:2,4 cannot be referring to the “Holy Angels” of the LORD [those 2/3 who had remained loyal], for these Angels (the loyal "angels" [they of the created heavenly host], like Gabriel ("that stand in the presence of GOD" Luke 1:19)) keep the Commandments of GOD and hearken to HIS voice did not leave their "first estate" as did those who rebelled; "the cast-out angels" [Satan and his ilk] (Jude 1:6) and therefore the passages cannot be referring to them in the least:

Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Psalms 103:20

The term “Sons of GOD” in Genesis 6:2,4 also cannot be referring to any of the “fallen” angels [those 1/3 who rebelled with Satan/Lucifer] either, for they neither procreate, nor generate, neither are “fruitful” (Genesis 1:28, 9:1), nor “bring forth abundantly” (Genesis 9:7), nor are able to “multiply” (Genesis 1:28, 9:1).

Procreation exists among man-kind (amongst themselves) and with other creatures (of each Kind amongst themselves) of the Earth:

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28

The devils and “fallen” angels, etc (Satan and his ilk) are only able to possess (never procreate with) those upon this world, either man-kind or animal-kind (serpent, pig), because they are “unclean spirits”:

And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. Mark 5:15

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed [with them]: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. Acts 8:7

The term “Sons of GOD” in Genesis 6:2,4 cannot then be referring to any “angel” [created “beings of the Heavenly Host”, either “good” or “evil”] at all for they had all been made “spirits” and “ministers a flame of fire” and sometimes called “Cherubims” (Genesis 3:24, etc.) and “Seraphims” (Isaiah 6:2,6) - which mean “burning, fiery ones” [Strong's Concordance; Gesenius's Lexicon]:

Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: Psalms 104:4;

And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. Hebrews 1:7.

Additionally scripture, by Paul, says that the Rebellious Angels are not “Flesh and Blood”:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. Ephesians 6:12

GOD had only said to the Creatures of the Earth and of Man-kind that they were to be “fruitful” and “multiply” after their “kind”. “Angels” are not the same as man-kind, for they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, and man-kind in the Resurrection shall then be like unto them:

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. Matthew 22:30 [the text reads “are as”, and thus indicates a state of being to which the Angels already have been and are presently still existent]

[See also Mark 12:25; Luke 20:35-36 “neither marry, nor are given in marriage … equal unto the angels”]

Perhaps, the given scriptures are not convincing enough for some and more is yet needed. Very well, onward to the immediate and surrounding context of the term “Sons of GOD”. Since it is clear in scripture that the “angels” “neither marry nor, are given in marriage”, and the scriptures “cannot be broken” (John 10:35) and are “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16), this automatically excludes all of the created angelic hosts (loyal or fallen) from the context as given in Genesis 6:2, for it says “they [Sons of GOD] took them wives”; and a wife only comes through marriage which is an institution specifically given unto man-kind, who is “flesh”, by GOD HIMSELF so that the two (man and woman; husband and wife) become “one flesh”, as Genesis 2:4 shows:

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. Genesis 6:2

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 2:4

Another reason why the term “Sons of GOD” in Genesis 6 cannot be referring to the “fallen angels” is because the text would then have more likely read “the devils...took them wives” [or something to that effect, and even more so, a postulate “if”: if these “Sons of GOD” were in fact devils or demons, why would they then “take wives”, which would then be according to something that GOD specifically instituted, instead of just taking female flesh slaves?], but it does not, and even 2 of the 3 texts, which also read “Sons of GOD”, in the Book of Job (which many compare Genesis 6 to), are already referring to Lucifer as “Satan” [the Adversary/Accuser], which is in stark contrast to the “Sons of GOD” and also in Genesis 3:1,2,4,13-14, he is already referred to as the “serpent”:

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. Job 1:6

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. Job 2:1

Let us delve a little deeper into the previous context and look back a little further into the Book of Genesis, for it will give a clearer understanding of who these “Sons of GOD” actually are.

It is plainly given that after Adam and Eve had sinned, they were then clothed by GOD with the skin (Genesis 3:21) of “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8; representing, by shadow and type, the loving Sacrifice of GOD and the Atonement for man-kind) and afterward were expelled from the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:23-24). Once removed from Paradise Adam and Even sired children, Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1-2).

That the sacrifice of a lamb, the shadow and type, is continued and kept by fallen man-kind, in the hope of the coming Redeemer (Genesis 3:15), is made even more plain in Genesis 4 by faithful and righteous Abel (Matthew 23:35; Hebrews 11:4) who “brought of the firstlings of his flock and the fat thereof” as an “offering” (Genesis 4:4).

However, Abel's brother Cain, did not follow in the example and type given of the “slain Lamb” by GOD HIMSELF, but rather chose his own method and means of “offering” to GOD – that being the “fruit of the ground” (Genesis 4:3). Abel's “offering” was accepted by the LORD, but Cain's “offering” was not, which he became exceedingly angry over (Genesis 4:5).

Although the LORD lovingly counseled and warned Cain to avoid sin (Genesis 4:6-7), Cain instead, in faithlessness and rebellion, chose not to listen to GOD and went to his brother Abel – and so Cain arose and slew [murdered] his brother (Genesis 4:8).

After being “mark”[ed] Cainwent out from the presence of the LORD” (Genesis 4:16) and eventually had a great great great grandson named “Lamech” (Genesis 4:18). Lamech followed not only in the spiritual footsteps of Cain's rebellion in murdering another (Genesis 4:23), and even used the LORD as an excuse (Genesis 4:24), but it is clearly detailed that he even married “two wives” (Genesis 4:19) which went against the original plan for marriage, which was given for man to have one wife (Genesis 2:24).

The picture is becoming clearer that the phrase “Sons of GOD”, as used in Genesis 6 is not meant to denote “angels” but is rather a term which represents those of man-kind who were “spiritually minded” (Romans 8:6), those who had “begun to call upon the name of the LORD” (Genesis 4:26) [See also Acts 22:16 for a similar reference], like the prophet Enoch (Jude 1:14), who continued to be faithful and followed and “walked” (Genesis 5:22,24) with the LORD in the “ways of GOD” (Deuteronomy 8:6, 10:12; 2 Samuel 22:22; Psalms 18:21) as did righteous Noah (Genesis 7:1) who was a “just man”, “perfect in his generations” (Genesis 6:9) and was a “preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5) [See Psalms 119:172 for “righteousness”].

The entire context of Genesis 6 begins and deals with “men” (Genesis 6:1) and “flesh” (Genesis 6:12) and not “angels” who are “spirits” (Psalms 104:4; Hebrews 1:7). In fact passage after passage reveals the dealings of GOD with the doings and “wickedness of man” (Genesis 6:5):

And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 6:3 [As a side note, this passage is not revealing a “capstone” to the age limit of man-kind hereafter, for Job lived past the age of 120, as did many others post-flood, Shem, Ham, Japheth, Terah, Abraham, Sarah, Ishamel, Isaac, etc, but is rather giving the allotted time for man-kind's repentance to the preaching of Enoch and Noah, etc. After 120 years, the Ark being finished and Noah, his wife and his son's and their wives went in, the door finally sealed and shut and the Judgment of the Flood came upon those who rejected the only means of salvation.]

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. Genesis 6:5

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Genesis 6:6

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. Genesis 6:7

If we understand the events as they unfolded in the earlier chapters of Genesis, with Satan, Cain and Lamech [faithlessness, rebellion, anger, murder, multiple wives, excuses, disobedience, going out from the presence of the LORD and so on] and with Adam, Eve, Seth, Enoch, Noah [faith, repentance, obedience, walking with GOD, just, righteousness, calling upon the name of the LORD and so on], etc., we can then understand what was going on in Genesis 6. Man-kind had begun to become many and “multiply” (Genesis 6:1) and two opposing sides could be clearly seen and witnessed upon the earth. Those looking for the promised redeemer and those who rejected the message.

However, as it went, even the “Sons of GOD” (the spiritually minded descendants who were keeping the ways of the TRUE GOD) had begun to look upon the fair “daughters of men” taking “wives of all which they chose” (Genesis 6:2) [except for Noah and his sons who all only had one wife (Genesis 7:13)] and so they had began to apostatize and become worldly and so they began to intermingle, being led astray, and also to intermarry which led them to “corrupt” the “ways of GOD” through “violence” and “wickedness” - and “every imagination of the thoughts” of man-kind's “heart [was] only evil continually”. And so the Judgment of the Flood was given, preached unto repentance, and finally received by those who rejected:

The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. Genesis 6:11

And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Genesis 6:12

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Genesis 6:13

And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: Genesis 7:21

And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained [alive], and they that [were] with him in the ark. Genesis 7:23

The problem of intermixing and intermarrying (amongst the “people, children and sons of GOD” with the “daughters of men, gentiles, nations, world”, etc) and having multiple wives leading into overt apostasy against GOD ALMIGHTY and directly into the bondage of sin, adultery, fornication and idolatry is given all throughout scripture in crystal clear testimony in all of such actions disastrous endeavors:

This was reiterated in the days of Moses:

Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and [one] call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; Exodus 34:15

And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. Exodus 34:16.

… In the days of Ezra:

Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, [even] of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. Ezra 9:1

For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of [those] lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. Ezra 9:2

Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness. Ezra 9:11

Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave [it] for an inheritance to your children for ever. Ezra 9:12

In the days of Nehemiah:

And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons: Nehemiah 10:30

In those days also saw I Jews [that] had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab: Nehemiah 13:23

And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying], Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves. Nehemiah 13:25

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin. Nehemiah 13:26

Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives? Nehemiah 13:27

...and also again in the days of King Solomon:

But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, [and] Hittites; 1 Kings 11:1

Of the nations [concerning] which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: [for] surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. 1 Kings 11:2

And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 1 Kings 11:3

For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, [that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as [was] the heart of David his father. 1 Kings 11:4

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 1 Kings 11:5

And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as [did] David his father. 1 Kings 11:6

Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that [is] before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 1 Kings 11:7

And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods. 1 Kings 11:8

Many "Sons of GOD" "looked"/"saw" and “beheld” ["saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair" and "took them wives of all which they chose" (Genesis 6:2)] and "beheld" (Just as did Samson, "she pleaseth me well", or King David who went after Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite and his friend, through covetousness had Uriah killed in action "from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon" (2 Samuel 11:2, 12:9) and Solomon who "multiplied wives" and "loved many strange women" and all Israel who took of the "daughters of the land"), and then “lusted and coveted” and so were ensnared being "Vex[ed], Beguiled, To Commit Trespass Against The LORD, Commit Fornication, Eat things sacrificed unto Idols, worshipped idols" (Numbers 25:18, 31:16; Revelation 2:14):

Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. Jude 1:11

For James says:

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. James 1:14

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. James 1:15

And in the greater overall picture there is a like message and call for the "people of GOD" also today to "come out" of "Spiritual Babylon" [just as GOD had done with physical Babylon; Jeremiah 51:9; Isaiah 52:11] that "great Whore" (Revelation 17:1, 19:2):

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 2 Corinthians 6:15

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Corinthians 6:16

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 2 Corinthians 6:17

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians 6:18

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. Revelation 18:4

Another question must be asked, “Is the term “Sons of GOD” only used in the context of “angels” (being the reference to the passages in the Book of Job that many quote) in scripture?” Far be it, for many more are used in reference to man-kind. Here are many passages concerning the Sons of GOD and Children of the LIGHT, the Heirs of the FATHER:

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. Genesis 6:2

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown. Genesis 6:4

Doubtless thou [art] our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, [art] our father, our redeemer; thy name [is] from everlasting. Isaiah 63:16

But now, O LORD, thou [art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; and we all [are] the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 2 Samuel 7:14

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people, [there] it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God. Hosea 1:10

Blessed [are] the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Matthew 6:9

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians [which is] in God the Father and [in] the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:1

Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. 1 Thessalonians 3:11

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:13

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Thessalonians 1:1

Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:2

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 2 Thessalonians 2:16

To Titus, [mine] own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. Titus 1:4

Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philemon 1:3

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Romans 8:16

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:17

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. Romans 8:19

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Romans 8:21

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Romans 9:8

And it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Romans 9:26

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:7

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians 6:18

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; Ephesians 5:1

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Philippians 2:15

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Hebrews 12:7

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1 John 3:1

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 1 John 5:2

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? Hebrews 12:9

Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3

One could very well also contrast the many passages on the “Sons of GOD” to the passages that discuss the “seed of Satan”, “children of disobedience”, “children of the devil”, “of that wicked one”, (those who are carnally minded, disobedient to the LAW and COMMANDMENTS of GOD and are the spiritual seed of Satan) etc:

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked [one]; Matthew 13:38

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. John 8:42

And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, [thou] child of the devil, [thou] enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? Acts 13:10

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:10

Not as Cain, [who] was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. 1 John 3:12

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4

They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 1 John 4:5

We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:6

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 1 John 4:7

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8

JESUS does make specific mention of the contrast (of the two; GOD or Satan) as to who one was "slave" to and subservient to:

Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44

As does Paul:

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans 6:16

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Ephesians 2:2

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Ephesians 5:6

For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: Colossians 3:6

As does Peter:

By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 1 Peter 3:19 [“spirits in prison” see: Psalms 142:7; Isaiah 42:6-7, 61:1; Luke 4:18]

Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:20

But, even with all of the comparisons and many texts on the “Sons of GOD”, which speak about man-kind and not “angels”, let us not forget that in Genesis 6, it specifically speaks about they who “took them wives of all which they chose” (Genesis 6:2) as this point is very important when considered amongst the passages in the New Testament which speak about what was going on just prior to the Flood. JESUS takes time to directly mention several things being done in excess, one of which was “marrying and giving in marriage”:

But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:37

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, Matthew 24:38

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Luke 17:26

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luke 17:27

Peter also briefly mentions the subject:

And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth [person], a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 2 Peter 2:5

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 2 Peter 3:3

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 2 Peter 3:6

Let us next consider the term “giants” [“Nephilim”] in Genesis 6. If such were truly “physical demon-human-hybrids”, as some speculate, which according to Genesis, Job, JESUS, Peter, etc were completely destroyed, then why are these “giants” yet found alive again after the world-wide flood? For the Flood was indeed entirely global and covering all the whole earth, even rising above the “then” mountains (Genesis 7:20) and all “flesh wherein the breath of life”, “every living substance” was “destroyed” and “perished” for “Noah only remained [alive], and they that [were] with him in the ark.” (Genesis 7:23).

The term “giants” is translated from the Hebrew word “nĕphiyl” “נָפִיל” which means “giants, attack, fall away, rebels, apostates” and comes from the Hebrew root word “naphal” “נָפַל” which means “to fall, lie down, lay prostrate, cast down, fall away to, go away to, desert, attack, knock out, overthrow, cause to drop” [Strong's Concordance] and also to “supplant, become ruined, to encamp” [Gesenius's Lexicon].

There were "giants" in those days before the flood and even after the flood, and in each instance the words used in description are always referring to the race of man-kind, and never in reference to angels:

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that [were] with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, Genesis 14:5

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, [is] a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it [are] men of a great stature. Numbers 13:32

And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, [being] the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. Deuteronomy 3:13

And the coast of Og king of Bashan, [which was] of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, Joshua 12:4

All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out. Joshua 13:12

And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same [is] Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that [lieth] before the valley of Hinnom westward, which [is] at the end of the valley of the giants northward: Joshua 15:8

And Joshua answered them, If thou [be] a great people, [then] get thee up to the wood [country], and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee. Joshua 17:15

And the border came down to the end of the mountain that [lieth] before the valley of the son of Hinnom, [and] which [is] in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to Enrogel, Joshua 18:16

“Nimrod” (“a mighty one”):

And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. Genesis 10:8

He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. Genesis 10:9

“Rephaims” (“giants” like Goliath or Og the King of Bashan):

And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, Genesis 15:20

For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead [was] a bedstead of iron; [is] it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits [was] the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. Deuteronomy 3:11

The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 2 Samuel 5:18

And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 2 Samuel 5:22

And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 1 Chronicles 14:9

And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim. Isaiah 17:5

“Anakims” (sons of Anak):

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, [which come] of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. Numbers 13:33

A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and [of whom] thou hast heard [say], Who can stand before the children of Anak! Deuteronomy 9:2

“Emims”:

Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. Deuteronomy 2:11

“Zamzummims”:

(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims; Deuteronomy 2:20

A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead: Deuteronomy 2:21

Others, “children of the giant”, “sons of the giant”:

And he slew an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand [was] a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. 1 Chronicles 11:23

And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, [that was] of the children of the giant: and they were subdued. 1 Chronicles 20:4

And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff [was] like a weaver's beam. 1 Chronicles 20:5

And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, whose fingers and toes [were] four and twenty, six [on each hand], and six [on each foot]: and he also was the son of the giant. 1 Chronicles 20:6

And Ishbibenob, which [was] of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear [weighed] three hundred [shekels] of brass in weight, he being girded with a new [sword], thought to have slain David. 2 Samuel 21:16

And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which [was] of the sons of the giant. 2 Samuel 21:18

And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew [the brother of] Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear [was] like a weaver's beam. 1 Samuel 21:19

And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. 2 Samuel 21:20

These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. 2 Samuel 21:22

Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, [saying], Surely God [is] in thee; and [there is] none else, [there is] no God. Isaiah 45:14

There are two ways, the Ways of GOD, or the way of wickedness:

Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? Job 22:15

Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: Job 22:16

There are those who follow Satan and there are those who follow GOD (Romans 6:16). It was Satan who split the Congregation in Heaven and drew 1/3 after himself because he wanted to be GOD (Revelation 12:4). There are only two churches and this is what the Battle of Armageddon is over, the Battle over the Har Mow'ed, the Battle over the Mount of the Congregation and who one worships and obeys. Who is your GOD?

Extra: Another piece of the text to consider in the context of Genesis 6:4 are the words "men of renown":

English: "reknown" = Hebrew: "shem" "שֵׁם" [meaning: name, reputation, fame, glory, memorial, monument, stigma (a mark with which anyone is marked), notable, famous or infamous] [Strong's Concordance]

Compare to those in the camp of Moses, where the exact same words are used:

And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: Numbers 16:2

...or compare to those who allow GOD to make them a great name, to those who make a great name for themselves:

[GOD makes the name great] And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12:2

[Man makes the name great] And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. Genesis 11:4

The "Sons of GOD" reads in Hebrew: בני־האלהים and in the translit. Hebrew: BNY-H'aLHYM; where "ben" is "sons" and "ELOHIYM" is "GOD"; which ELOHIYM can be found referenced from the first in Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning GOD [ELOHIYM] created..." [then see Luke 3:38].

It is now overtly clear that the Scriptures makes no mention of "Physical ...sexual...interactions" between mankind and angel (cast out or loyal) which was to produce a "demon-angel-mankind-hybrid".

Let us now consider the Book of Job references that many cite [Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7]. In two instances [Job 1:6; 2:1] that the term "sons of GOD" is used it is in dealing with those who are Loyal Angels in Heaven AFTER the Flood, for Satan [already designated as such, not counted a "son of god", but rather "adversary"] comes among them to boast.

GOD asks him a question: "Whence comest thou?" [not that GOD did not already know, but HE was about to make a point with Satan in the Great Controversy that had been ongoing] and Satan in his boastful reply, says "From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it." [Job 1:7; 2:2], and if one stops to think about his actual reply and consider "why would Satan say such a thing to GOD?" It was because he was saying that he was 'Lord of the Earth', and that it was his domain, that he walked up and down the breadth and depth and height of it [just as GOD told Abraham to do in Canaan...for it was promised to him, walk up and down the breadth of the land...], and all was his dominion...yet GOD, pointed out that not all was his [Satan's] as he made claim, for there was a man named Job, a servant of the LORD, who was upright, that feared GOD and shunned evil...

...but in reconsidering the last text [Job 38:7], it is in reference to Loyal Angels at the Creation of the Earth [long before the Flood].

So, in all three references in the Book of Job itself, none of the "sons of GOD" texts are dealing with the locality and timeframe of the Flood at all. Their context does not fit into Genesis 6 at all. There are, however, a few texts in the Book of Job which do directly belong to the context of the flood:

Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? Job 22:15

Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: Job 22:16

Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them? Job 22:17

These "wicked MEN" [not angels] "went out from the presence of the LORD" and said "Depart from us"...and so they [wicked men] heeded not the Preaching of Noah by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT sent by JESUS for 120 years [1 Peter 3] and so were destroyed, "cut down out of time" with a "flood" and only the 8 of Noah were saved "by water".

Let us now take a look at the SEPTUAGINT LXX GREEK and the SEPTUAGINT TRANSLITERATED GREEK for further study of the two passages in Genesis 6 [6:2,4] and compare them with the Job passages [Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7] and others:

The Greek words used in the Septuagint LXX passages of Genesis 6:2,4 are “υἱοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ” [Grk.] or “uioi tou qeou” [Trans. Grk.] which is translated into the English as “Sons of GOD”, as in human men or man-kind. There is no mention of “angels” [cast-out or otherwise] in the two passages. In fact, in the Septuagint LXX, the Job passages [which many will compare Genesis 6:2,4 to] DOES NOT use the same terminology/phraseology when speaking about the “angels”. Instead, it is written as “ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ” [Grk.] or “aggeloi tou qeou” [Trans. Grk.] and the word “aggeloi” is “angel” [or “messenger”], a completely different word from “uioi” [“son”]. Here is the evidence:

Now compare the passages Of Genesis 6:2,4 in the Greek to the Greek texts of Romans 8:14,19:

The texts are speaking of men, man-kind, human-beings and not “angels”.
Let us also go back and consider again what JESUS had said, "And AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOE, SO SHALL IT BE IN THE DAYS OF THE SON OF MAN." [Luke 17:26]

...especially on the part about "taking wives of all that they [supposedly fallen angels] chose" and "marrying":

"For AS IN THE DAYS THAT WERE BEFORE THE FLOOD they were eating and drinking, MARRYING AND GIVING IN MARRIAGE, until the day that Noe entered into the ark," Matthew 24:38

If "fallen angels were marrying and mating with women" [as unbiblically speculated by some] then [in the days of Noah]...so then they are to be so doing now according to those two texts alone... [however, it is obvious that they are not so doing by other texts...]

Some will then say that GOD makes no clear distinction between the two classes of people [followers of GOD, vs followers of another], yet by scripture we can see the differences, let us recap quickly what we have gone over in a few points:

1st point: Cain slew Abel [is sin]. He was then "mark"[ed] and then "went out from the presence of the LORD" (Gen. 4:16) and sired a great great great grandson, "Lamech" (Gen. 4:18), who followed "in the way" of Cain's rebellion/sin [murder] (Gen. 4:23), using the LORD as an excuse to do so (Gen. 4:24), also Lamech married "two wives" (Gen. 4:19) [the first given to do so, setting up a pattern of sin for others to follow] which went directly counter the original plan marriage, which was given for man to have 1 wife (Gen. 2:24), as Noah had (Gen. 7:13).

Always 2 contrasted groups in Scripture ["children of disobedience" and "sons of GOD", "wicked" and "righteous", "of the devil" and "children of the FATHER", etc], those that "went out from the presence of the LORD" (Gen. 4:16) and those that "call upon the name of the LORD" (Gen. 4:26). The "sons of GOD" in Gen. 6 were those of mankind [not angel] who were [before compromise] continuing in the Faith, keeping to the true "offering" and type and kept to the true Worship of GOD, like the prophet Enoch (Jude 1:14), who continued to be faithful and followed and "walked" (Gen. 5:22,24) with the LORD in the "ways of GOD" (Deut. 8:6, 10:12; 2 Sam. 22:22; Psalms 18:21) as did righteous Noah (Gen. 7:1) who was a "just man", "perfect in his generations" (Gen. 6:9), husband to one wife (Gen. 7:13) and was a "preacher of righteousness" (2 Ptr 2:5) [See "Righteousness" Psalms 119:172]. So there is clear evidence from scripture about the delineation and both are dealing with mankind. Two ways, "the ways of GOD" or "of that wicked one", and of the wicked men before the flood scripture says: "...the old way which wicked men have trodden?" Job 22:15 and ...cut down out of time ... with a flood: Job 22:16

2nd point: The term "Giants" ["Nephilim", etc] always deals with mankind [never angel]: "...the Rephaims...the Zuzims...the Emims..." Gen. 14:5 [See also Gen. 15:20; Deut. 2:11,20-21, 3:11; 2 Sam. 5:18,22; 1 Chro. 14:9; Isaiah 17:5] and "...men of a great stature." Num. 13:32 [See also 1 Chron. 11:23, 20:4-6; Isaiah 45:14] and "...kingdom of Og...all Bashan...the land of giants." Deut. 3:13 and "...of the remnant of the giants..." Jos. 12:4 [See also Jos. 13:12, 15:8, 17:15, 18:16; 2 Sam. 21:16,18-20,22] and "...Nimrod:...a mighty one..." Gen. 10:8 [See also Gen. 10:9] and "...the giants, the sons of Anak, [which come] of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." Num. 13:33

3rd Point: "men of reknown": English: "reknown" = Hebrew: "shem" "שֵׁם" [meaning: name, reputation, fame, glory, memorial, monument, stigma (a mark with which anyone is marked), notable, famous or infamous] [Strong's] and again is dealing only with mankind: "...princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:" Numbers 16:2

4th point: Passages of Job [Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7]: for Job 1:6, 2:1 context is dealing with events way After the Flood, and the context of Job 38:7 deals with context way before the Flood. Not any of those three texts deals with the context of the events AT the Flood...though there is text in Job which does deal directly with the Flood and wickedness of mankind: "...wicked men..." Job 22:15 and "...cut down out of time...with a flood." Job 22:16 and "Which said unto God, Depart from us..." Job 22:17 ["Depart from us", "they went out from the presence of the LORD", and even for 120 years did not heed the voice of GOD through the preaching of Noah by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT, sent of JESUS [1 Peter 3]]

5th [final] point: JESUS own words, on "the days of Noah", and on the events therein, especially on "marrying" and "wives": "...AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOE, SO SHALL IT BE IN THE DAYS OF THE SON OF MAN." Luke 17:26 and "For AS IN THE DAYS THAT WERE BEFORE THE FLOOD ...MARRYING AND GIVING IN MARRIAGE..." Matthew 24:38 compare "they took wives of all that they chose"

If "fallen angels were marrying and mating with women" back then [in the days of Noah] to create hybrid spawn...so then they are to be so doing now according to the words of CHRIST JESUS... if this were really true, scripture would be in direct contradiction to itself at this point. Yet, scripture reveals that it is speaking about mankind in Gen. 6 ["men began to multiply"], not angels, and therefore, there is no contradiction. Thus is revealed the end of the study and the “mystery” of the “sons of GOD” in Genesis 6.
