4. The kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who did what?

Matthew 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

We are “stewards of the mysteries of God.” 1 Corinthians 4:1.

5. What happens to treasures laid up on earth?

9. What will we bring when we come into His courts?

11. What happens when we give?

12. Wherein have some robbed God?

Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

Notice that tithe and offerings are two different things.

13. What happens if I rob God?

15. What are we to do with what belongs to God?

Matthew 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

16. Ought we to tithe as well as perform the weightier matters of the law?

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

17. How should we feel about anything we give to God?

1 Chronicles 29:14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.

18. What did Abraham give Melchizedek?

Genesis 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

19. How much is a tithe?

Hebrews 7:1,2 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

20. How much shall be holy unto the Lord?

21. What did Jacob vow to God?

Genesis 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

22. Do we return God’s tithe after we have paid everything else, or do we return His tithe first?

Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

23. To whom were Israel’s tithes given?

Numbers 18:24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

24. What service did they perform which qualified them to receive tithes?

Numbers 18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

25. Even so hath the Lord ordained that who should live of the gospel?

1 Corinthians 9:13, 14 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

26. Bring ye all the tithes into what?

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

27. That there may be meat in what?

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

“The house of God... is the church of the living God.” 1 Timothy 3:15.

28. If we faithfully return His tithe, what will God do?

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

31. How does that kind of investment bring returns?

Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

32. What should we remember about God?

Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

“Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.” Proverbs 15:16.

“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?” Ecclesiastes 5:10, 11.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.” 1 Timothy 6:6-11.

34. What should we concentrate on? And what is promised?

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

In the Light of God's Word...

I understand that God has designated the tithe for the support of the gospel ministry, and that a tenth of my increase belongs to Him for that purpose.

I understand that God also asks for freewill offerings according as He has blessed me, and that these offerings reveal the condition of my heart toward Him.

I choose to faithfully return to God His tithe and my offerings, because of my love for Him.

Next Lesson: God’s Special People

Throughout history, since the time of Abraham, God has had a special group of people. Those who have have been faithful in their relationship to Him and have strived, with God's transforming power, to keep His commandments. For most of the B.C. years and a few of the A.D. years it was the Jewish nation. After their rejection of Christ, God's people became anyone who would accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour and hold true to God's commandments. Although satan has tried to wipe them out, especially during the dark ages, God has always preserved His true church. Lesson 28 examines the characteristics of God's church through the centuries and during the end-time before Christ's second coming. God wants you to be among His special people. Do you?
