God has to be more than one person?

(Note: The following article is adapted and is based on the presentation titled "Three Godhead" by Peter Gregory)

There is a big problem with the idea that God can be one person. God has to be more than one person. Let us see why. But first of all, let us see a description of God.

- Ex 6:3 And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

So who is Jehovah? He is God Almighty. Therefore if there is a God, God has to be Almighty. He has to have supreme power over all. Yes or no? If he is less powerful, then he cannot be God Almighty. Not only God has to be all powerful, but he has to be Jehovah.

The name Jehovah means the “self existing one”. That means he has no beginning and no end.

- Isaiah 40:28 Have you not come to know or have you not heard? Jehovah, the Creator of the extremities of the earth, is a God to time indefinite. He does not tire out or grow weary. There is no searching out of his understanding

What kind of God is he? He is a God to time indefinite. That means he is Everlasting. He is also creator. Therefore God cannot be created if he is the creator. Therefore to be God, he has to be creator and have no beginning or end.

- 1 John 4:8 He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love.

God is what? God is Love. So if there is a God, he has to be love. And there is no way that God can be everlasting, all powerful, creator, self existing without love because love is the most important ingredient. If God is not love then God must be hate. There cannot be middle ground. If God is hate what will he do? He will hate him so much that he will destroy himself. Therefore in order to exist forever, he must be love (and he sure is).

- Daniel 9:14 And Jehovah kept alert to the calamity and finally brought it upon us, for Jehovah our God is righteous in all his works that he has done; and we have not obeyed his voice.

Not only God has to be love but he also has to be righteous. Self existing God has to be righteous, not wicked nor evil.

Now is the interesting part. Based on these definitions or descriptions of God, there has to be more than one person. If we take these descriptions, one God can be Almighty, one God can be self existing, and one God can be righteous but in order to fulfill love part of the description, God has to be at least two.

Here is the reason why:

Let us reason out that there is one God in one person. That would mean long time ago he was there and nobody else was there. How do we know? Because he is everlasting. So when God was by himself, can he fulfill the description of ‘love’? Yes or no? Can he be God of love?

Let’s just say He is God of love. That means he existed one time and if he is love, what does love do? Love always gives. So whom did he love? Did he ended up loving himself. If so, then that is not true love.

Therefore in order for God to be love there has to be at least two. Because love is always shared.

Does Love always takes two?

Eccle 4:9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their hard work. 11 Moreover, if two lie down together, they also will certainly get warm; but how can just one keep warm? 12 And if somebody could overpower one alone, two together could make a stand against him. And a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn in two.

The bible gives an idea that two are better than one in a relationship. But what is better than two? Three. Therefore for God to be love we need to have at least two.

- For God to be righteous he must be three:

Proverbs 12:17 He that launches forth faithfulness [truth (KJV)] will tell what is righteous, but a false witness, deception.

What is related to righteousness? Faithfulness or Truth.

Now how can someone testify himself ‘I am the truth’? Can a person testify he is truth by himself in a court? But lets say that God can testify himself because he is God. But let’s put it in a more judicial term, to make everything perfectly justice or righteous in order to define what is truth or not. If God the Father says I am the truth, he has to have how many witnesses? What does God say in his inspired word?

According to the bible one is not enough. Is that what God says? Let us see.

Isaiah 43:9 Let the nations all be collected together at one place, and let national groups be gathered together. Who is there among them that can tell this? Or can they cause us to hear even the first things? Let them furnish their witnesses, that they may be declared righteous, or let them hear and say, ‘It is the truth’

In order to say ‘truth’, you need how many witnesses according to God?

Deut 17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one dying should be put to death. He will not be put to death at the mouth of one witness

One is not enough.

Matt 18:16 but if he does not listen, take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established

In order to establish truth, one needs more than one person.

So who can witness for God? Only God can witness. To establish God is truth you need more than one. Therefore we need to have three persons who are God. Can a man bear witness for God? No it has to be a person who is God [Jehovah] in nature. Do we have three persons who make up one God in unity? Yes. The Father, the Son and the Holy Sprit; the three Godhead (not Godheads). Three persons make them one God in unity. Not one God in three parts nor one God in one person. The three in unity - Three Godhead. The word Godhead means true deity.

All three of them can say the same thing. Check this out:

Psalms 25:5 Make me walk in your truth and teach me, For you are my God of salvation. In you I have hoped all day long.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 15:26 When the helper arrives that I will send YOU from the Father, the spirit of the truth, which proceeds from the Father, that one will bear witness about me;

No why do we have three? That’s because they have different roles.

God the Father is the Giver
God the son the is the Gift
God the Spirit helps to Experience the Gift.

Father, is He the giver?

Matt 17:11 Therefore, if YOU, although being wicked, know how to give good gifts to YOUR children, how much more so will YOUR Father who is in the heavens give good things to those asking him?

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect present is from above, for it comes down from the Father of the [celestial] lights, and with him there is not a variation of the turning of the shadow

Son is the Gift?

John 4:10 In answer Jesus said to her: “If you had known the free gift of God and who it is that says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water

Rom 5:17 For if by the trespass of the one [man] death ruled as king through that one, much more will those who receive the abundance of the undeserved kindness and of the free gift of righteousness rule as kings in life through the one [person], Jesus Christ

Rom 6:23 For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord

God the Spirit helps to Experience the Gift?

John 14:25 But the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach YOU all things and bring back to YOUR minds all the things I told YOU

Eph 5:18 Also, do not be getting drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but keep getting filled with spirit

Being filled means:

Rom 5:5 and the hope does not lead to disappointment; because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy spirit, which was given us
