- Sin resulted in us losing the character of God. Sin is the main problem!!!

Romans 5:12 wherefore as by the one man sin entered into the world and death by sin and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned

- Coming short of the glory of God (his character)

What does the word transgression mean?

- Transgression – revolt, rebellion, law breaking, wrongdoing (Ref: H6588; G3847)

What are the two major consequences that result from transgressing the law?

- Death
- Coming short of God’s glory

Is unrighteousness sin?

1 John 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin

- Therefore sin and unrighteousness are the same thing

What happens when we commit sin?

James 2:9 but if ye have respect to persons ye commit sin and are convinced of the law as transgressors

- The law convicts us as transgressors

- Transgression of the law

Therefore what is righteousness?

- Keeping the law

Romans 7:12 wherefore the law is holy and the commandment holy and just and good

God=good (Psalms 143:10; Matthew 19:17; Mark 10:18)

Who is God?

1 John 4:8 he that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love

What is love?

Romans 13:10 love works no ill to his neighbor therefore love is the fulfilling of the law

What kind of love is this?

- Self sacrificing love

What is God’s plan for restoration?

2 Thessalonians 2:14 whereunto he called you by our gospel to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ

What is the purpose of the gospel?

- The obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ

What is the Character of Christ? (John 10:30)

- It is the law of God
- Therefore salvation or restoration is having the law/glory/righteousness of God revealed in us

Why should we greatly rejoice in the Lord?

Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments and as a bride adroneth herself with jewels

- Because he has clothed us with the garments of salvation

What are the garments of salvation?

- The robe of righteousness

Whose righteousness?

Jermiah 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

- Christ’s righteousness (See Isaiah 56:1; Isaiah 46:13)

How does this restoration take place?

Matthew 1:21 and she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name JESUS for he shall save his people from there sins

What would the name of Mary’s son be?

- Jesus

What does Jesus mean?

- Saviour

What would He save people from?

- From their sins

What does Emmanuel means?

John 1:14 and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth

- Emmanuel means God with us (Matthew 1:23). Jesus dwelt among us.

And what did we behold?

- His glory

Why did Jesus dwell among us

- So we could behold His glory/His character

What happens when you behold something?

2 Corinthians 3:18 and we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord are changed into that same image from glory to glory even as by the spirit of the Lord

If we are not being changed then we are not beholding and if we are not beholding are we experiencing Jesus as Emmanuel? No

Can we be saved without Jesus? No

- Then we need to experience Jesus as Emmanuel – God with Us

What is God doing for us?

2 Corinthians 4:6 God who commanded light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the faith of Jesus

What does God do?

- Commands light to shine out of darkness

When did God command light to shine out of darkness?

- At creation

How did God command light?

- With His word

What is God doing in our hearts?

- Our heart is dark
- Shining light into our sin darkened hearts

What is this light?

- The knowledge of the glory of God seen in the face of Jesus

So what does God command to shine into our hearts?

The light of His glory revealed in His Son, who is the living Word. We must behold the glory of God in Christ and by beholding Christ the power of God transforms us into that same image. The same power that was used to create the light is the power that God uses through Jesus to shine His glory in our hearts

What is the riches of the glory of this mystery?

Colossians 1:27 to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the gentiles which is Christ in you the hope of glory

- Christ in you the Hope of glory

Who dwells in us?

- Jesus

What is our hope if He dwells in us?

- The glory of God
- The character of God

How are we saved?

Ephesians 2:8-10 for by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast, for we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works

- By grace

How does this grace come?

- Through faith

What is grace?

Grace = Charis – the divine influencing upon the heart made manifest in the life

Ephesians 2:1-6 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

- The power of God to quicken us from sin

Where do both come from?

- From God

What are they?

- Gifts

Do we earn these gifts?

- No, our works cannot earn them
- They are free gifts

What does grace through faith make us?

- God’s workmanship
- Created in Christ Jesus unto good works

Who creates righteousness in us?

- God in Jesus

What does that mean to me today?

I cannot produce any good thing

It must be Christ in me the hope of glory that fulfills the law in me

I need to study more

I need to schedule in my time better so I can be a more effective vessel in my Father’s hands

I want to be like Jesus…by God’s grace to completely surrender to Jesus

2 Thessalonians 2:13 - The gospel is obtaining the glory of Jesus - Which is the character of God/ a reflection of who He is - Which is His law.
